Jose Lucia Saviñon Caceres
December 13, 1942 – October 12, 2017
Jose L. Saviñon (“Nolo” a/k/a “The Original Papi Chulo”), age 74, went on to Glory on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Columbus ITAC in Newark, New Jersey. He was born on December 13, 1942 in Bonao, Dominican Republic to the late Domingo Saviñon and the late Ana Camelia Caceres. He lived in the Bronx and moved with his wife Melania Saviñon (“Soledad”) to Newark in the 1970s.

He was the beloved father of Camelia, Eunice and Diana. He was a devoted grandfather to Gabriela (“KiKi), Isabela and Elsa (“The Ninjas”), Isaias and Daniela.
Jose fought a heroic battle against renal failure for 17 years. In the midst of countless hospitalizations and procedures, he maintained a constant smile on his face and was the life of every conversation with anyone he encountered. His love of food, family, the Mets and life was infectious. He is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, son in law Edison, countless family and friends.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at San Camilo Funeral Home, 253 Mount Prospect Avenue, Newark, N.J. 07104. He will be privately cremated.
The Saviñon family expresses our deep felt gratitude for all the love, support and prayers extended over the years. We know he lives on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
