Edwin Ivan Martinez

Edwin Ivan Martinez was born on March 28, 2010, at Clara Mass Medical Center in Belleville, New Jersey. He was the firstborn and beloved son of Xenia Martinez and a devoted older brother to Daylin Yaeli.

Edwin was known to all his family, friends and teachers as a trustworthy, obedient, respectful, and kind young man. He brought joy for life with him everywhere he went and his presence lit up the room with happiness. He said yes when asked for a favor and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved playing soccer and could be counted on to join a game whenever he could. His dream was to become an auto mechanic.

He was a dedicated student at Park Elementary School and was preparing to graduate from the 8th grade. Recently, he completed his First Holy Communion at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church. A spiritual young man, he was preparing for his Confirmation, devoutly bringing his offering to Mass each Sunday.

Edwin traveled alone to El Salvador this past Christmas holiday and was blessed to meet his grandparents for the first time. He fell in love with the way they lived – in an open, airy environment where family and friends regularly gathered outside. He reveled in the El Salvadoran lifestyle and was determined to return again this summer.

Edwin’s young life ended unexpectedly on February 25, 2024. Now his life is eternal and he will visit with us as a comforting Angel sent from our Savior.

He is survived by his loving mother, Xenia, his sister, Daylin Yaeli; his grandparents, Maria Magdalena and Jose Francisco; his uncles, Jaime, Miguel, David, Roberto, Juan, Ismael, and Mauricio; his aunts, Teresa and Dinora; and a host of relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 2-6pm at Alvarez Funeral Home, 240 Mount Prospect Avenue, Newark, NJ 07104.

Funeral, Friday, March 8, 2024 at 9am, at Alvarez Funeral Home.

A mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 172 Broadway, Newark, NJ at 10am.

Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
